Key duties include reviewing the permit, conducting a job site inspection, briefing the team, and stopping work if conditions become unsafe.
Before work begins
Review the permit: Read and fully understand the permit's conditions, hazards, and required safety controls before accepting it.
Inspect the site: Conduct a thorough job site inspection to identify any hazards and verify that all necessary safety measures, such as barricades and proper equipment, are in place.
Ensure compliance: Confirm that all workers have the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and that lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures are followed where necessary.
Brief the crew: Hold a toolbox talk to communicate the permit's instructions, hazards, and safety rules to the entire crew.
During work
Supervise and monitor: Stay at the work site and continuously monitor the job to ensure the work is being performed according to the permit's terms and conditions.
Maintain communication: Keep the permit issuer informed of progress and any changes to the work conditions. Report any emergencies or unsafe situations immediately.
Stop work if necessary: Be prepared to immediately stop the work if conditions change or if the safety rules are not being followed.
